Sports Society

Aligned with the National Policy on Education (NPE) 2020, DME emphasizes the importance of extracurricular activities, especially sports, in nurturing students’ unique talents and helping them achieve excellence. Despite the campus not having a dedicated sports ground, DME ensures students have access to diverse sports by regularly booking professional facilities such as the Commonwealth Games Village, Noida Stadium, Chilla Stadium, and others. This approach allows students to gain professional training and field experience.

DME actively supports and encourages student participation in various tournaments, and its students have proudly represented the institution at district, state, national, and international levels, earning recognition and accolades.

It provides students with opportunities to engage in both on-ground and off-ground activities, promoting their holistic development. Lakshya – Intra CollegeSports Meet

Report of Intra Sports Event – Lakshya 2024 at Delhi Metropolitan Education Delhi Metropolitan Education (DME) proudly hosted its annual intra-sports event, Lakshya 2024, showcasing the diverse athletic talents of its student body. Spanning three days from September 21 and September 28 and September 29, the event successfully engaged around 600 students. The Events commenced on September 21 with an electrifying E-Sports competition held in the N M Hall. This modern addition attracted a significant number of participants who battled it out in popular digital arenas of BGMI, highlighting the institution’s commitment to embracing contemporary forms of competition alongside traditional sports. Following the E-Sports kickoff, Lakshya continued with a series of exhilarating physical sports events on September 28 and 29. The sports lineup was comprehensive, catering to a wide range of interests and talents. Students competed in cricket, football, and basketball, demonstrating exceptional skills and teamwork. Traditional games like kho kho and tug of war also featured prominently, reflecting the cultural heritage and encouraging inclusive participation. Sports such as badminton and table tennis provided platforms for precision and agility, while chess tournaments engaged the strategic minds of DME’s students. Each event was meticulously organized, ensuring fair play and maximum engagement. The vibrant atmosphere was palpable as students cheered for their peers, fostering a sense of community and school pride. Lakshya 2024 concluded on a high note with an award ceremony on September 30, celebrating outstanding performances and encouraging continuous participation. The event not only provided a platform for athletic excellence but also reinforced the values of teamwork, dedication, and healthy competition among DME students.

Samagra – Inter CollegeSports Meet

  • Delhi Metropolitan Education (DME) College, affiliated with Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, proudly hosted its 2nd Inter-College Sports Meet, Samagrah’24, from April 30th to May 3rd, 2024. This grand event took place across multiple venues, including the DME campus, Noida Stadium, and East Vinod Nagar Complex, and saw enthusiastic participation from over 1,800 students representing more than 90 colleges and universities from across the country. The sports meet featured a wide range of 15 sports categories, including chess, kabaddi, football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, box cricket, athletics, shot put, and discus throw, providing a platform for students to showcase their athletic abilities and team spirit.
  • Samagrah’24 was more than just a sports competition; it was a celebration of sportsmanship, collaboration, and camaraderie. The event concluded with a grand valedictory ceremony, which was graced by notable guests, including Dr. Richa Sood, the first woman Asian medalist of Ghaziabad; Hon’ble Justice Bhanwar Singh, Director General of DME; Prof. (Dr.) Ravi Kant Swamy, Director of DME; and Pt. Manish Pandey, Director of Gatirang NGO. The valedictory ceremony recognized the efforts and achievements of the participants with a prize distribution ceremony where winners were awarded trophies, medals, and cash prizes. The atmosphere was charged with excitement and pride as students’ hard work and dedication were rewarded.
  • The name “Samagrah” truly embodied the holistic experience the event provided to all participants. It successfully fostered a spirit of unity and sportsmanship among students, making it a resounding success. Colleges from different parts of the country competed in a series of thrilling matches, with the top performers emerging victorious. For instance, NMIMS claimed the first position in chess, while Shyam Lal College and GBPEC secured second and third, respectively. In table tennis, KR Mangalam took the first spot, followed by BCIPS and NIU. The badminton categories saw fierce competition, with MNIMS dominating multiple divisions, including Men’s Singles (MS), Men’s Doubles (MD), and Mixed Doubles (MXD), while Ramanujan and Shaheed Rajguru College shined in the Women’s Singles (WS) and Women’s Doubles (WD) categories, respectively.
  • Team sports also witnessed intense matches. JSS won the Men’s Football tournament, while DME secured second place. Hansraj College and KEC battled it out in Men’s Basketball, with Hansraj clinching the top spot. In the Women’s Basketball category, Sri Venkateswara College triumphed, followed by Galgotias University and JSSATE. Similarly, Jamia Hamdard emerged victorious in Women’s Volleyball, with GGSIPU and DME securing second and third positions. Kabaddi enthusiasts saw NIU taking the first position, followed by PIET and ADGIPS.
  • Samagrah’24 brought together students from diverse backgrounds and institutions, creating a memorable and enriching experience for all. The event truly lived up to its name by providing a comprehensive and inclusive platform for showcasing talent, perseverance, and teamwork.

Furthermore, DME’s Women’s Football Team clinched the championship title at the 19th Annual Sports Meet 2024 organized by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU). The victorious team displayed exceptional teamwork, skill, and determination throughout the event. The winning team members include Dhriti Gaur, Vridhi Mukhija, Kashvi Chamoli, Chetna Arora, Anika Singh, and Gouri A. Nair, among others. Pranvi Sharma, a first-year BBA LLB student, earned a gold in Judo, while Shristy Ramola, a second-year BALLB student, claimed a gold in weightlifting in the women’s category. In addition, the DME Women’s Football Team emerged as champions at

the same event, demonstrating outstanding teamwork, skill, and perseverance. The victorious team members include Dhriti Gaur, Vridhi Mukhija, Kashvi Chamoli, Chetna Arora, Anika Singh, and Gouri A. Nair, among others. This remarkable achievement reflects the athletic excellence and competitive spirit nurtured at DME, setting the stage for future success in national competitions.

Achievements in other events

Adding to these achievement, Sukhman Singh also showcased exceptional talent in golf, securing a tied 2nd place at the IGU Tamil Nadu Amateur Championship 2024 in Coimbatore, earning his maiden trophy on the Gentlemen’s National Circuit. Singh won the inaugural Night Golf Festival 2024 at Jaypee Greens, Greater Noida, competing against 124 players. He also finished second runner-up at the IGU Northern India Amateur Championship, breaking his personal record and placing 4th. Representing Team Wave Riders, Singh secured a Bronze medal at the Trinity Golf Champions League 2024, presented by Shri Kapil Dev.
