The preamble of the Indian constitution aims to secure to the people of India Justice – Socio Economic and Political. Article 38 and 39A of the Indian Constitution are notable. Article 39-A of the constitution states that the state shall in particular, provide free legal aid, by suitable legislation or schemes, to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen. In the light of aforesaid statement a Legal Aid Camp was organised on 21st November, 2019 at Kasna Jail, District Gautam Budhha Nagar. (U.P).
A group of 40 students along with Asst. Professor Mr. Kush Karla visited Supreme Court of India on 26th August, 2019 as a part of DME Law School Education Visit programme. This visit was aimed at making the students aware of the functioning of the highest body of justice.
Students were informed about the landmark decided cases of Supreme Court. Students were further informed about the Public Interest Litigation and Jurisdiction of Apex Court. The students were also shown the documentary about the Supreme Court establishment and were informed about its working.
Students also visited Supreme Court Museum and observed the evolution of Legal System in India from ancient time to present days.
This visit will help students understand the role of Hon’ble Supreme court in dispensing justice and to ascertain whether the laws are executed and obeyed properly and to see to it that no person is deprived of justice in any court of law.
On 23rd August, 2019 the students of BBA.LLB and BA LLB, 1st Year (A) of DELHI METROPOLITAN EDUCATION, Law Department, Noida visited International committee of Red Cross ( ICRC ) with faculty Assistant Professor Kush Kalra.
The ICRC is a Humanitarian institution based in GENEVA, SWITZERLAND. The ICRC was established in 1859 after the battle of SOLFERINO .The German red cross society was the first national society which was established in 1863. The ICRC is the national humanitarian organization. ICRC’s mandate is to protect victims of international and internal armed conflicts. Such victims include war wounded, prisoners refugees, civilians, and other non-combatants.The ICRC is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement along with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and 190 National Societies.The red cross and red crescent offices are called Delegations. The South Sudan is the youngest national society established in 2013.
History of ICRC- There were no organized and well-established army nursing systems for casualties and no safe and protected institutions to accommodate and treat those who were wounded on the battlefield. In June 1859, the Swiss businessman Henry Dunant travelled to Italy to meet French emperor Napoléon III. he witnessed about 40,000 soldiers on both sides died or were left wounded on the field he devoted himself to helping with the treatment and care for the wounded he devoted himself to helping with the treatment and care for the wounded Back in his home in Geneva, he decided to write a book entitled A Memory of Solferino which he published with his own money in 1862. He sent copies of the book to leading political and military figures throughout Europe.
The ICRC is the independent organization, it has many donors and the biggest donor is US Government.
The emblem of the ICRC is very meaningful it is the reverse symbol of the Swiss flag, it is the sign of protection, no religious connotations. There is criticism on the current emblem of ICRC so on Dec.8, 2005 ICRC came with the idea of the Red Crystal.
CORE OF ICRC:
- Promoting humanitarian law
- Provides assistance to affected people
- Service to be close to victims
- Confidentiality is the key of ICRC, they make no public statements
The ICRC is not an NGO or INGO, they are humanitarian body.
The students were informed about the work of The ICRC, New Delhi and were informed about the various humanitarian works done by ICRC.
This visit will help students understand the role and importance of ICRC in India.
Visit of students of BBA LLB, 1st year A section to Central Adoption and Resource Authority (CARA)
A group of students from BBA LLB 1ST Year (section A) along with Asst. Professors Mr. Kush Karla of DME, Noida visited CARA on 21st August, 2019 as a part of DME Law School Education Visit programme. This visit was aimed at making the students aware of the functioning of the CARA. . Students meet the senior official and Law officer of CARA and learnt about the working of CARA in detailed manner.
Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) is a statutory body of Ministry of Women & Child Development, Government of India. It functions as the nodal body for adoption of Indian children and is mandated to monitor and regulate in-country and inter-country adoptions. CARA is designated as the Central Authority to deal with inter-country adoptions in accordance with the provisions of the Hague Convention on Inter-country Adoption, 1993, ratified by Government of India in 2003.
CARA primarily deals with adoption of orphan, abandoned and surrendered children through its associated /recognised adoption agencies. Students were informed about the process of Legal adoption in India and the role of CARA in dealing with adoption of orphaned, abandoned and surrendered children through its associated and recognised adoption agencies.
This visit will help students understand the role of CARA and the process of Legal and valid adoption in India.
The Students of Delhi Metropolitan Education, Noida, affiliated to GGSIPU, had the occasion to visit Kasna Jail on 9th March to get awareness about the condition of Jail and its Prisoners. The Kasna Jail is a well maintained, clean and a strict Jail presently holding 2572 Male Prisoners along 86 female Prisoners including the 16 such female prisoners along with their children aged below 6 years. It follows Inclusive Management which provides Administration of Prisoners, for Prisoners and by the Prisoners who have Good behaviour and conduct in Jail.
The reformative method of punishment is followed for the prisoners.
For Reformation, the jail provides a Skill development training Training Room in which Solar LED Lamps are made, Kala Kendra room to let prisoners practice Paint, Art and Literacy, Stitching,Tailoring and Computer training.
The Visit was Insightful and an eye opener for students to get a positive image of the Jail and life of prisoners It also provided awareness on how the Jail Authorities aim to work for the reformation of its prisoners.
VISIT TO NATIONAL ZOOLOGICAL PARK, DELHI
A group of 160 students of third year BA LLB and BBA LLB along with two Asst. Professors Ms. Navjot Suri and Mr. Mukesh Kalwani of DME, Noida visited National Zoological Park, Delhi on 27th October, 2018 as a part of DME Law School Education Visit programme. This visit was aimed at making the students aware of the functioning of the legislations related to wildlife protection.
The students were made aware of the specific sections of the wildlife protection Act, 1972
Students also visited the Himayun Tomb and understood how air pollution has effected the monuments. This visit helped the students to ascertain whether the laws are executed and obeyed properly with regard to wildlife conservation and monument preservation.
VISIT TO SUPREME COURT OF INDIA OF BA LLB 2 nd YEAR STUDENTS (SECTION B)
A group of 45 students along with two Asst. Professors Mr. Kush Karla and Mr. Padmesh Kataria of DME, Noida visited Supreme Court of India on 23 rd August, 2018 as a part of DME Law School Education Visit programme. This visit was aimed at making the students aware of the functioning of the highest body of justice.
Students observed Chief Justice of India court proceedings wherein they observed the hearing of constitution bench case related to reservation in promotions. The students also visited other courts inside supreme court premises. After that some students was called by Secretary General Shri Ravindra Maithani in his chamber where he interacted with students and guided them regarding law as a career.
The students also interacted with registrar Shri Rajesh Kumar Goel. He cleared all the doubt and queries of students related to Legal profession and shared his life experience and journey and also motivated the students to become good lawyers and judges.
Students also visited Supreme Court Museum and observed the evolution of Legal System in India from ancient time to present days.

A trip to Parliament was organised by DME Law Department for 46 law students of second year who were accompanied by two faculty members, Ms Navjot Suri and Ms Komal Kapoor.The students got a chance to visit the chambers of Lok sabha and Rajya sabha , the Central Hall of the Parliament and also the Parliamentary Museum .
The trip was scheduled for 11 April, 2018. This trip was conducted to help the students learn more about the working of the Parliament, the supreme legislative body of the Republic of India. We departed around 12:30 p.m from our college for the parliament and reached around 01:30 p.m. After reaching there the students had a session of approximately half an hour organised by BPST department .The students were given a brief on the historical background of the parliament .The students were explained about the internal working of the parliament and the complications and difficulties faced while making any particular law. They were informed about functioning of the parliament, and how it differs from what we watch on the television. They were explained on how the law making process functions. “The main principle is that the more the opposition parties are vocal, the stronger the democracy is”. The institution of opposition is an important ingredient, as the idea is to check the despoting tendency of the government and the opposition party should be vocal. The crux of the parliamentary affairs is that the Government is accountable to legislature. After, the session, few questions were asked by the students which were promptly answered.
After a short and refreshing tea break, we went to see both houses of the Parliament i.e; the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. Megha Chaturvedi , student of BA LLB second year represented the college as a student leader by giving her views and discussing on the parliamentary issues with the guide. Students were very enthusiastic to have a look of the chambers of Lok sabha and Rajya sabha and the Central Hall of the Parliament. The students were given detailed information on the functioning of both the houses. After this the students visited the central hall, where the first speech post independence was given by our first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Mountbatten signed the first PACT in the hall.
In the end the students visited the museum where there were statues of renowned leaders of our country. They also enjoyed watching a very informative documentary depicting the transfer of power and making of Indian Constitution. They also listened the very first speech delivered by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on the midnight of 15th August 1947 in the original version.
The deputy director was so impressed by our students that she has invited our students to visit when the parliament is in session.
A visit to Mandoli Central Jail was organized for the students of B.A.LLB 3rd Year. Ms. Shruti Ahuja, Assistant Professor (Law) , was faculty In-charge for the same. About 40 students were taken from the college premises to the jail through bus. All the students were taken to Jail number 13(under trial prisoners) and Jail Number 14(convicted prisoners) where in one of the superintendent police officer guided students and gave us information about the administration and working of the prison. There were convicts of various serious offences who were sent to open prison for rehabilitation and reformation.
Prisoners are engaged in various vocational, educational and spiritual activities. Various tasks and activities are allotted to various inmates on rotational basis. There are various amenities like hospitals, library, meditation centre, computer lab, art section, music room, etc. the inmates are also given an opportunity to have education under “Padho Padhao” wherein educated inmates themselves study along with educating illiterate inmates. Also, there is an association with IGNOU wherein the inmates are given an option to continue their education and obtain degrees while they are undergoing their punishment.
Prisoners were seen engaged in many activities in various factories in the jail complex namely, shoe factory, cloth factory, bakery etc. The cloth factory is in association with Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna, under which various designers sends their dress material for assembling into various kinds of dresses. The wages for the work done by the prisoner and their daily routine was also discussed by the officer. The daily routine of these prisoners starts with waking up early in the morning and compulsory practice of yoga. Then they are provided with breakfast which is followed by dispersal of the inmates to do their respective work allotted to them followed by the lunch. The schedule of the whole day is fixed. the inner premises of the Central jail which was really vast, very clean and was surrounded by greenery.
Students interacted with the inmates of the Jail and asked them about the living conditions in the premises as well as details about their case and tried to provide them with legal assistance. Overall it was a great experience for the students and it has certainly changed their perspective about Jail as well as offenders.
The Students of DME 2nd year (BA LLB, B section) visited the Delhi High Court Legal Service Committee on 28th March, 2018. Delhi High Court Legal Service Committee was formed with the objective of the to provide free legal services to eligible candidates (defined in Sec. 12 of the Act),
CRITERIA FOR PROVIDING FREE LEGAL SERVICES
Section 12 of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 prescribes the criteria for giving legal services to the eligible persons. Section 12 of the Act reads as under:- Every person who has to file or defend a case shall be entitled to legal services under this Act if that person is –
A) A member of a Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe;
B) A victim of trafficking in human beings or beggar as referred to in Article 23 of the Constitution;
C) A woman or a child;
D) A mentally ill or otherwise disabled person
and to organize Lok Adalats for speedy resolution of cases.
Justice S. Ravindra Bhat is the chairman of the DHCLSC. The Students have been briefed about the working of the DHCLSC and have been informed about the criteria for free legal aid and method to avail the free legal services. The superintendent of the DHCLSC took very keen interest in informing the students about the free legal aid provisions available to eligible litigants in District Courts, High Courts and Supreme Court of India. This visit was a good practical exposure for the students of DME.
